Everyone Has a Podcast: My Favorite Art Podcasts
It's almost 2019 and it seems like everyone has a podcast. I might even start my own one day. Podcasts are a great way to engage with content even if you're doing something else like working on a project or stuck in traffic. There's a podcast for everything; from Dungeons and Dragons to local politics and they are a great way to pass time or learn something new. This post is about my favorite podcasts concerned with art. They explore everything in the art world from business to art history and all of the podcasts are updated regularly as of December 2018.
- Adventures in Design
Adventures in Design is a podcast network created by Mark Brickey; a designer, illustrator, printmaker and public speaker. AiD is self described as "A daily talk show for creatives just like you, exploring how others design happiness into their professional lives." The network posts new episodes daily from a variety of different shows covering topics like branding, retail design, food, and designer toys. Although AiD is design based, its variety of shows means that artists of every medium will find something to enjoy. Their website also features workshops available for their Circle of Trust members.
- Creative Pep Talk
Creative Pep Talk is hosted by Andy Miller; a freelance illustrator who has worked with Nickelodeon, Google and Converse to name a few. The show is focused on building your creative career and often features topics that we might forget about as creatives such as business and self marketing. Andy often features interviews with everyone from designers to marketers. If you're in need a pick me up or a kick in the ass for your creative career I would definitely check out Creative Pep Talk. Don't forget to checkout the show's website which features a newsletter and a blog with even more pep and interviews.
- 99% Invisible
99% Invisible is hosted by Roman Mars and is part of the Radiotopia Network. Roman is a public speaker and founder of the Radiotopia network. Fun Fact: 99% Invisible is the highest funded journalism project ever on Kickstarter. 99% Invisible is self described as "About all the thought that goes into the things that we don't think about -- the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world." Each episode explores a historical or modern story of design. Digging deep into the process and making connections with how it came to be and how it affected society. Expect to hear about things you never knew about such as a group of artists kicked out of their home by land developers only to find an "accidental room" in a mall built by the same developers. (Episode 332). 99PI is a great way to learn about bizzare design stories. Their website features a newsletter, articles and additional information from each episode.

- Bad At Sports
If you're looking for interviews from artworld giants then check out Bad At Sports. Released two times a week, Bad At Sports features interviews from prominent artists such as David Hockney and Alex Katz. The BAS crew explores the personal inspiration and drive behind artists, directors and collectors to deliver inspiring episodes. Based out of Chicago, the crew updates their blog weekly with a weekend top 5 list of Chicago art events.
- Raw Material
Raw Material is a podcast by SFMOMA. Each season is hosted by a different podcaster in residence at the museum and focuses on a different topic. The current season, season 4, is titled Luvvers and past seasons are titled Landfall, Manifest and Otherworld. Featuring artist interviews, the host dives into their season's topic to explore how the theme affects how artist approach work as well as how viewers interpret it. With artists of all mediums and a new theme each season you'll probably find something to peak your interest. Be sure to check out their website for more information from each episode.
